Economy

Rick Scott for Florida

June 10, 2014

Governor Scotts knows that small business drives Florida’s economy – over 80 percent of Florida jobs are created by small businesses.  As a successful business leader, Governor Scott also knows that many times, bureaucratic red tape and high taxes get in the way of Floridians fulfilling that dream.  From day one, Governor Scott has had a laser focus on removing the bureaucratic barriers to economic growth. His policy changes have made Florida more competitive, more business friendly, and created the perfect economic climate for the American Dream.

And with his “Jobs for the Next Generation” plan, Governor Scott wants to make Florida the nation’s leader in growing emerging industries with good-paying jobs.

And It’s Working…

  • Since Governor Scott took office, Florida businesses have added more than 651,300 new private-sector jobs as of September 2014.
  • Governor Scott inherited a $3.6 billion dollar shortfall from Charlie Crist, and now Florida has a $1.2 billion surplus.
  • Governor Scott cut taxes more than  40 times, including:
    • Sales tax holidays for school, hurricane supplies, and energy efficient appliances
    • Rolled back the manufacturing equipment sales tax
    • $210 million cut in property taxes
    • $400 million cut in auto registration fees, reversing Charlie Crist’s tax hike.
  • During the Scott Administration, more than 3,000 unnecessary regulations have been eliminated.
  • The unemployment rate has dropped from over 11% in December in 2010 to 6.1% today.
  • The average wait time for a professional license has decreased from 42 days to 2 days since 2008.
