Higher Education

Rick Scott for Florida

June 10, 2014

With the rising cost of college making a college degree too costly, Governor Scott has been dedicated to making college more affordable for Florida students. Governor Scott has held the line on tuition and reversed Charlie Crist’s 15 percent tuition hike, giving every student who grows up in Florida the chance to pursue an affordable college education.

Governor Scott has also significantly reduced the cost of Florida Prepaid savings plans, provide in-state tuition for veterans, and worked with Florida state colleges to offer $10,000 degrees in high demand job fields.

$10,000 College Degrees: $10,000 is the cost of a college degree from nearly two-dozen state college programs that are participating in Governor Scott’s challenge, securing the opportunity of a low cost college degree for all Floridians.

Repealing 15% Annual Tuition Increases: Governor Scott eliminated the authority for universities to increase tuition by 15% as well as automatic cost of living adjustments forced on students and parents by Charlie Crist.

Cutting The Cost of Prepaid by Nearly $20,000: Because Governor Scott signed a law stopping the runaway increases in university tuition, parents who sign their children up for a Florida 4-Year University Pre-Paid Tuition plan will save nearly $20,000 for new children being enrolled in the program.
