Public Safety

Rick Scott for Florida

June 10, 2014

Under Governor Scott’s leadership, Florida is at a 43-year crime low. That’s why the Florida Police Chiefs Association as well as 40 county sheriffs endorsed Governor Scott for re-election.

And with his “Let’s Keep Florida Safe” plan, Governor Scott will continue to move the state in the right direction by giving law enforcement and public safety officials the tools they need to keep Florida families and visitors safe.

  • Governor Scott has been tough on crime, standing by his promise that those convicted serve 85% of their sentence.
  • Juvenile crime rates have decreased by 30% over the last four years.
  • Under Governor Scott’s leadership, Florida successfully transformed from the epicenter of prescription drug abuse to a model for the nation on drug abuse prevention.  Since taking office, Oxycodone-related deaths have dropped by 41 percent.  Overall, prescription drug-related deaths dropped by nearly 10 percent in 2012 alone.
  • Under Governor Scott, funding for Juvenile Delinquency Prevention Programs in Florida has reached a record level of $75 million.  Early Intervention programs keep at-risk youths out of jail and create more productive members of society – making it both a compassionate policy endorsed by Florida Police Chiefs and 40 sheriffs, and a sound investment of taxpayer funds.
